How we worship God

Why worship?

The church is God's creation: he not only saves sinners, but also brings them together in his church. In the Old Testament God chose Abraham and his descendants as his people.
Since the coming of Jesus Christ, however, God has opened the doors of his church as wide as the world: all nations must hear the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection and believe in him.

Our church is part of this worldwide work of Jesus Christ. He is present wherever Christians gather in his name and submit to his Word. Therefore we feel connected with every Christian church in the world that is faithful to the Bible.

God calls us to worship him. We are not free to design a worship service as we see fit. We need to listen to God's will for worship. This is expressed in the Second Commandment: we should not worship God in the form of idols. This has a broader application: we need to study the Bible in order to find out how God wants our worship to be like. The churches of the Reformation have done this in the past and we use the insight they have gained from the Bible.

A different type of worship
An important characteristic of Reformed worship is the fact that God calls us together and speaks to us. He takes the initiative and worship is essentially responding to what he says. It can be seen as a conversation between God and his people. God's initiative in this conversation is made visible in the fact that the preaching of the Bible is central in our worship services.

If you share this conviction with us and are looking for a church with a Biblical worship style, we invite you to join us in worship.

If you have experienced other forms of worship and are tired of constantly changing contemporary styles, lots of 'worship' but little preaching of the truth, if you have heard enough 'how to'-pep talk and stress on human needs, we humbly invite you to our worship services. We hope you will be built up and may rediscover a worship style that has survived several centuries but is still up-to-date and relevant.
